Although Chinese is spoken by more people on the earth than any other language, it is in second place for use on the Internet. English remains the most popular language, not least because so many people around the world speak English as their second language, and at present more web pages are written in English than in any other language.
In the league tables of languages used on the Internet , after English and Chinese there is a big drop to Spanish, followed by Japanese.However, more Japanese speakers access the web than any other nationality, followed closely by Germany. Other nationalities are a long way behind these two.
The use of the internet and the growth of the range of languages used to access it will no doubt continue to grow and may eventually overtake English as the most used language on the web.
